Zygomatic Dental Implants in Gurugram

Zygomatic implants are a selected option discussed for some severely deficient upper jaws. Unlike a conventional implant anchored in jawbone, they gain anchorage in the zygomatic bone (cheekbone). This is not a routine alternative for every missing tooth or a promise that grafting can be avoided. Dr. Supreet Kaur Sawhney, MDS in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, is a Senior Consultant and Senior Implantologist with 20+ years of experience; her consultation can review whether this complex option merits consideration alongside graft-based care or another restoration.

When a specialist may discuss this option

The selected indication is severe deficiency of bone in the upper jaw. Assessment considers the reason for the deficiency, oral health, remaining teeth and the replacement to be supported. Bone augmentation followed by conventional implants is an alternative for some patients; a bridge, another denture design or no replacement may also be discussed.

Planning includes the cheekbone, sinus and final teeth

When clinically selected, computed tomography (CT) or cone-beam CT (CBCT) assessment considers the midface, upper jaw, cheekbone and sinus health. Safe placement depends on visualisation and understanding nearby anatomy; imaging does not guarantee that a plan is suitable. Surgical and restorative planning must be coordinated. Zygomatic implants may support a splinted (linked) fixed or removable restoration; cantilever length (replacement teeth extending beyond implant support), cleaning access and the opposing teeth influence the design.

There is no universal implant configuration or restoration for every patient. The consultation should explain how the implants and replacement teeth work together, how they can be cleaned, which alternatives remain and what further records may help.

Risks and warning symptoms deserve a direct discussion

Loss of a strategically important zygomatic implant support can compromise the replacement teeth and needs individual specialist assessment. Sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses) is an important reported complication. Soft-tissue recession (gum tissue pulling back), a communication between the mouth and sinus, altered sensation (a change in feeling) and injury to nearby structures have also been reported. Incorrect position can injure adjacent anatomy, including the orbit around the eye. Published sinusitis summaries did not consistently separate symptomatic from symptom-free findings, so they do not provide a simple personal risk estimate.

Soreness, swelling, bruising or minor bleeding may occur after surgery, and recovery varies. Follow the operating team's advice, including cleaning instructions for the healing stage and follow-up. Clean the implants and replacement teeth daily and attend professional reviews after treatment. Report pain or perceived looseness promptly. Contact the team if symptoms worsen; bleeding that remains uncontrolled needs urgent local emergency care, distinct from minor initial oozing. Sinus symptoms with worsening pain or marked illness need urgent medical assessment. Sudden vision loss or severe eye pain needs emergency care.
