Emergency Tooth Extraction in Gurugram

Severe tooth pain or an injury needs prompt assessment, but it does not by itself mean the tooth must be removed. A dentist checks whether the tooth can be restored and discusses appropriate options. Dr. Supreet Kaur Sawhney, MDS, is a Senior Consultant – Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and Senior Implantologist with more than 20 years of experience. This page explains the urgent decision first; extraction steps and aftercare apply only if removal is selected.

An urgent assessment comes before the treatment choice

The clinician asks about general health and medicines, examines the mouth and may use a dental X-ray if it answers a planning question. X-rays are selected for the individual clinical question, not required at every visit. A damaged tooth may be saved when a filling or crown can restore it. Extraction can be considered after assessment when damage is beyond repair or an injury warrants removal. Pain, trauma or infection alone does not settle the decision.

When seeking urgent dental advice, explain what happened, which symptoms are present and how they have changed. Do not assume that every urgent visit ends in extraction; the choice depends on diagnosis, restorability and individual circumstances.

If extraction is selected

Tooth removal takes the tooth out of its socket (the space left after removal). Local anaesthesia (medicine that makes the area numb) is used. The socket is cleaned, and grafting (placing material to help build bone) or stitches may be used when indicated, not for every extraction. Possible complications include infection, delayed healing, nerve injury or injury near a sinus (the air-filled space above the upper back teeth); individual risks vary with the anatomy and procedure.

After removal, follow the treating team’s instructions and avoid disturbing the socket clot (the protective blood clot in the space left after removal). Smoking can impair healing, and jawbone healing continues beyond early gum healing, so there is no single timetable for everyone. Persistent severe pain, fever or pus warrants prompt reassessment. These aftercare points apply after removal has actually been performed, not to the initial assessment alone.

If infection is suspected

If a suspected dental infection causes difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing, swelling around the eye or visual change, or major mouth swelling, seek immediate emergency medical assessment. Do not delay for routine clinic contact. These are conditional emergency warnings; an urgent tooth visit does not mean an infection is present.
