Free Gingival Grafting in Gurugram
A free gingival graft transfers a thin surface layer of tissue from the palate (roof of the mouth) to increase resilient gum around a natural tooth. Its main aim is to increase tissue width; it does not predictably cover an exposed root. This page concerns free gingival grafting around natural teeth; implant-site grafting needs a separate assessment and evidence scope. Dr. Supreet Kaur Sawhney, MDS, is a Senior Consultant – Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and Senior Implantologist with 20+ years of experience. Her consultation can clarify whether the goal is a stronger tissue band, root coverage or monitoring.

Tissue width and root coverage are separate goals
A free gingival graft may be discussed when gum around a natural tooth needs a wider, more resilient band. If the concern is an exposed root, this graft is not intended to provide predictable coverage; another approach may be discussed depending on the site. Stable recession can sometimes be monitored rather than operated on.

Assessment considers brushing trauma, gum disease, tissue thickness and tooth position; more than one cause may coexist. The proposed treatment should match the concern and site. This page discusses natural-tooth gum tissue. An implant site needs its own assessment before a soft-tissue graft is considered.

Donor tissue and healing
A general outline includes medicine that numbs the area, preparation of the gum receiving the graft, placement of the graft and stitches; the exact method depends on the case. The transferred tissue is from the patient’s own palate (roof of the mouth). Ask what care is needed for both the treated gum and the palate donor area. Grafting can cause bleeding, infection, altered appearance or the need for additional surgery. A graft may fail to heal into place or be lost, including when its blood supply is lost.

General patient information gives an average recovery of about one to two weeks after gum-graft surgery, and several treated areas may take longer. This is not a personal healing guarantee, full tissue maturation timetable or schedule for an ungrafted flap or implant soft-tissue procedure. Protect the operated area: do not pull the lip or cheek to inspect it, avoid brushing the surgical site until your team advises you to resume, and follow the team’s food and cleaning plan. After healing, gentle effective brushing and continuing maintenance help protect treated tissue; early cleaning may differ.

Contact the treating service if bleeding does not stop after firm pressure, or if pain is not improving or becomes much worse about a week after surgery. Contact the team as well for fever, pus or concern that graft tissue has been lost. If uncontrolled bleeding or another urgent concern occurs while the team is unavailable, seek urgent local care. Follow the treating service’s own pressure and emergency instructions.
